Bonuses

Recommended Posts

Example , you deposit £100 and get a 100% bonus . You have £200 to play with but £5000 wagering to complete

How would you go about this ? Some will start with as low as 40c spins , right ? Others might bet £1 or £2 but how many would go hard from the start with the max allowed £5 spins ?? Hardly anyone afaik

However , the max bet rule is there for a reason and do you know what that reason is ? It's because the bigger you bet the more money you will come away with on average !! You might want to do 50c spins on a £200 bankroll to give yourself more chance of hitting that big bonus and more playing time but the fact is playing like that WILL cost you money . If you want to maximise your chances of winning money from a bonus then you need to do max allowable bet all the time. (check the bonus T&C's for the max bet allowed)

I don't know of a slot variance simulator but here is an example for roulette adjusted to 96% RTP doing 10000 trial runs for each betsize . As you can see as the betsize increases the average return increases and the maximum return increases . On the negative side the chance of busting increases also BUT on average you will win more (with bigger winning sessions which is fun of course)

£100 deposit + £100 bonus = £200 start balance

£5000 wagering

Betsize £1

Avg End Balance £71
Max End Balance £378
Chance of gain 31%
Chance of Bust 23%

Betsize £2

Avg End Balance £77
Max End Balance £432
Chance of Gain 35%
Chance of Bust 35%

Betsize £4

Avg End Balance £91
Max End Balance £592
Chance of Gain 40%
Chance of Bust 45%

Betsize £5

Avg End Balance £93
Max End Balance £660
Chance of Gain 38%
Chance of Bust 49%

--------------------------------------

Betsize £10

Avg End Balance £108
Max End Balance £1000
Chance of Gain 36%
Chance of Bust 57%

Betsize £100

Avg End Balance £147
Max End Balance £2600
Chance of gain 18%
Chance of Bust 82%

Of course slots are not the same as roulette so these numbers are just to give an idea of the principle but the fact is that bigger bets = more money won (or less lost) per £1 wagered . Just something to think about next time you feel like "degening" with big bets you will actually be playing more optimally ! Go hard or go home truly applies here :P

IF I made a mistake here or there's something wrong with my logic then lmk but I feel like this isn't widely understood amongst slot players and they feel like they are playing better doing "sensible" bets of say 1/200th of their bankroll but in reality this strategy is actually hurting their chances of coming out on top !

Watching LGIAS on the highroller bonus he often says that he needs to do big bets because of the wagering but I wonder if he agrees that actually the optimal strategy would be to do 200kr (max) bets right from the start and in fact possibly LOWER bets later on if it looks like he will comfortably make wagering . Seems like most players approach bonuses the wrong way round by starting with small bets when you should start with big bets and only lower bets once it is unlikely you will bust out completely . Also lowering your betsize as your balance lowers will only hurt your chances overall I think

Yes in normal play big bets will just mean you risk more money and have bigger bankroll swings and losses overall

When playing with a bonus though your funds are already locked up as bonus funds (on most sites) . Betting big means you are more likely to release your deposit and gain something from the bonus you took . Also you will have bigger winning sessions which might set you up for a long time when you play smaller bets whilst not on a bonus . When you deposit and take a bonus you know that usually you will bust or come out in profit so I don't see it as risking more money , just a shorter playtime

I'm just saying the most +EV way to play with a bonus is to go as big bets as possible from the start and then maybe reduce your betsize when your bankroll is high and completing wagering looks likely (check  T&C because some casinos have restrictions on lowering your bet like this!) . You can always break your bankroll up as some you will use for a bonus (big bets , less playtime , higher potential wins) and some you use for regular play (smaller bets , longer playtime )

True, but you also risk a lot more moneywise. And you're not supposed to be playing slots to only make money so just bet smaller and have fun longer

I see it said occasionally that playing slots is about 'fun' and not to make  money but I don't know if any gambler really believes that. If it's fun you want then surely just stick to free play. I think I understand the point you are trying to make, I'm just not sure if that's what people really think or it's just the message the casinos and game providers repeat to demonstrate responsible gaming.

Re: OP. Nice analysis and yes it makes sense :-)
